About

Horticultural knowledge, applied with care.

I’m Owen, a professional horticulturist based in Cardiff. I specialise in plant-rich gardens and enjoy working with people who want something more from their garden.

Qualifications include the Kew Diploma in Horticulture and RHS Level 3. As Head Gardener at Horatio’s Garden, I’ve worked closely with acclaimed garden designer Sarah Price, and I also teach horticulture at Pencoed College.

I look after private gardens across Penarth and Cardiff, and whether it’s pruning a favourite shrub at the right time, refining an established border or getting a veg patch going, I bring the same care to every garden.

Naturalistic planting

Layered, seasonal and generous

I favour planting with rhythm, texture and movement: gardens that change through the year and feel abundant without becoming over-manicured.

Garden care & pruning

Regular visits to keep plants healthy and well managed, with careful seasonal work to make the most of your garden.

Planting & propagation

Planting up new or tired borders and containers, dividing and propagating plants you already love, and practical, site-specific planting plans chosen for your conditions, style and how much upkeep you want.

Productive gardens

Fruit, vegetables and herbs, growing alongside ornamental planting or in a productive space of their own. Help setting up veg beds, planning what to grow and keeping them cropping.

Approach & area

A garden should get better with time

My approach is horticultural rather than simply cosmetic: understanding how plants grow, pruning them at the right time, improving conditions where needed and helping the whole garden develop season by season.

I work mainly in Penarth and take on selected gardens across Cardiff. Not sure if you’re in my patch? Just ask.

Wildlife-friendly planting

Planting that buzzes

Long-flowering, nectar-rich plants bring bees, hoverflies and other pollinators into the garden for months at a time.
